Israel Teaching Fellows: Rishon Le’tzion
Teach. Live. Experience.

The Program

ITF will bring about change in Israeli schools through a new and innovative 10 month program, highly subsidized by the Ministry of Education and the Masa project, where fellows will partner with Israeli teachers to work in English classes in Israel.  Come join us for the amazing opportunity to be a change agent in Israel. The teaching fellows will complete a 100+ hour teacher training that will complement past teaching experiences, work in 3rd- 8th grade classrooms, receive Hebrew language learning through the year, participate in a community and professional development project weekly, and explore Israel through seminars and tours. This comprehensive program will provide you with a supportive environment to give you the tools to succeed and make a difference the lives of Israeli children in Rishon Le’tzion.  For more information, feel free to contact orlysh@israelexperience.org.il.

The Location

Israel Experience is fortunate to have a partnership with the community of Rishon Le’zion (“The First to Zion”), a vibrant city that was the home to the first major aliyah (immigration) in 1882. Much has changed since then, now that it is the fifth largest city in Israel with a thriving metropolitan center filled with parks, cultural centers and commercial areas. Furthermore, it is only a short 12 miles away from Tel Aviv. As you live, volunteer and enjoy the life that Israel has to offer, we will do our utmost to make your experience meaningful, and everything it should be – safe, educational, fun, logistically smooth and most importantly- An Experience That Makes A Difference.

Program Requirements:

College graduates of English speaking countries, with formal or informal teaching experiences who are Native English speakers and who have a desire to make a difference in the lives of Israeli youth.  As this is a fellowship, we are looking for quality applicants and who can succeed with the help of our staff in the challenging yet meaningful work in Israeli schools. All potential participants will need to apply for the program and go through a phone interview with program staff.

Core Components:

• Volunteer with Israeli children in diverse environments as you serve as a positive role model through community activities and your school work
• Gain professional experience though our community development program
• Garner knowledge about educational methodologies and the Israeli education system through our intensive 100+ hour training
•  Travel the country through our enrichment activities
• Learn Hebrew by participating in weekly learning
• Be supported by quality program staff providing educational programs, health insurance, transport, stipend, flight reimbursement and more…
• Connect to Israel by giving back

Meaningful Volunteer Work: Participants will be placed in schools that best suit them, ensuring that they are integral parts of the classroom. We will be partnering with a variety of 3-8th grade classes within religious and secular school models to give participants depth to their experience. Participants will also be given the opportunity to take up a second community development opportunity to help them integrate themselves into the greater community of Rishon an gain professional experience in their field of interest.
Educational Component: By exploring the country by foot, participants will be able to learn about Israel’s history and current events with seminars ranging from environmental issues, social and political issues. The program will combine both seminars and overnight excursions throughout the country engaging you in aspects of Israeli society. We will also incorporate opportunities to interact with Israelis peers your age.
Pedagogical Training: Participants will receive training in class experience, curriculum building, cultural training, small group experience, working with kids, working with children with disabilities and much more all run by a top Israeli educational institution.
Central Housing: Participants will be living in furnished apartment style housing in shared room apartments in Rishon’s city center. Basic kitchen utensils and appliances will be provided as well. Not to worry Ikea is close by for the rest of your needs

And the program is worth your money…

Cost: The program costs $1ooo** for the entire 10 month experience which includes teacher training, travel throughout the country, housing, seminars, Hebrew learning thoughout the year, health insurance, transport in the city, stipend and plane ticket reimbursement.
**This highly subsidized program costs $1000 for those that are eligible for the grant from the Masa Project (www.masaisrael.org).  The subsidized program cost totals over $14,000, and we are lucky to have partners who are helping to cover costs.
Monthly Stipend and Flight Reimbursement: Participants will receive a monthly stipend to help cover the cost of travel, food, and other basic amenities. The program will also reimburse your round-trip plane ticket to join the program.
Host Families: Participants will be given the chance to request a host family- people to spend holidays and Shabbats with, and to help ease the transition into living abroad.
